Description

For our collaboration with Jean-Michel Basquiat, we wanted to spotlight some of his rarely seen works—the pieces that became the backbone of this collection. Basquiat's art often explored body mechanics, a theme that naturally connects to martial arts, and here, specifically, jiu-jitsu. That connection gave the project its own distinct energy, amplified by the fact that we worked with garments not often used in collaborations with the Basquiat estate.

One detail we especially love is the subtle nod to "Achilles" in the artwork. While it's not a direct martial arts reference, the term "Achilles lock" was once used for what we now call a footlock. Being able to incorporate seldom-seen art that ties back to martial arts—even in unexpected ways—has been central to this collection, right down to the fine details you'll see below.

The A&P / Basquiat collection pays tribute to the late artist's lasting legacy—his raw energy, fearless social commentary, and layered symbolism—reimagined through A&P's signature silhouettes and premium craftsmanship. The drop features gi and nogi sets covered with rarely seen Basquiat artwork, alongside off-the-mat lifestyle pieces, many showcasing martial arts motifs hidden within his work. These details create a natural meeting point between A&P and Jean-Michel Basquiat's worlds.
